New start James joined our sales team at the beginning of the year. Since joining he’s been working hard to learn about what we do and has even had the chance to attend Oracle’s first OpenWorld event to be held in the UK. Below, James shares his Team Xynomix experience so far.
3rd January 2019 – a date I was looking forward to with immense excitement. It was to be the first day in my new role as Account Manager at Xynomix – the database specialists for Oracle and SQL Server Support and Consultancy.
I was eager to contribute and begin my journey with Xynomix. A journey that was sold to me by the company’s passionate leaders and industry leading team members during the slick and professional interview process.
Upon arrival I was made to feel so welcome by every member of the business, which immediately put me at ease, and in turn made me relax and let my natural personality come through. I was under no illusion to the fact that whilst I had strong background in Account Management, Software sales, and Cloud Solutions, the world of Database Support and Consultancy was a new challenge for me, so I had a lot to learn.
I need not have worried though, as the support given from my team mates, management and the in-house technical consultants, enabled me to gain a huge volume of knowledge very quickly. One-to-one sessions, diagrams, knowledge shares, challenges and presentations to my colleagues all gave me a fantastic grounding and insight into the industry, whilst giving me the tools required to develop further.
One of the highlights for me in my first month was an invitation to Oracle OpenWorld. At first I was apprehensive. Did I have the right amount of knowledge? Would I represent the company effectively? All of the usual fears when attending a large event. However, once my pass was scanned I was straight in the thick of things, down in the Exhibitors area spotting and taking note of companies, whilst simultaneously being amazed by the Oracle Cloud Connected City. By the time I found my colleagues I felt like I had gained even more knowledge and was keen to ask questions.
I found the sessions incredibly informative and having immersed myself in topics such as Oracle’s Cloud and Oracle Database Application (ODA) I was soon ready to network. I was fortunate enough to meet numerous individuals who were keen to chat Oracle and share advice for me moving forward. The event also proved to be a great opportunity to meet some of our own customers who were able to share their experience of the event and indeed our service over a cup of coffee.
I have really enjoyed my first month at Xynomix. It’s been a steep learning curve but a very enjoyable one thanks to the support and encouragement offered from the whole team. As I continue to learn, I’m looking forward to getting more and more involved and putting my new knowledge into practice to help our clients get the best out of their databases.
