Oracle News: Oracle Debuts Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux

Oracle has released ‘a fast, modern, reliable kernel that is optimised for maximum performance with Oracle software and hardware’: the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux.

According to Oracle, Oracle’s Linux, database, middleware and hardware engineering teams have combined their efforts to create the new Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel.

Features highlighted by Oracle include:

Speed: After testing, Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux was found to achieve 137% faster solid state disk access; 200% quicker Infiniband messaging and an overall 75% performance gain demonstrated in OLTP performance tests over a Red Hat Compatible Kernel.

Application to Current Business Concerns: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux provides optimisations for large Non-Uniform Memory Access [NUMA] servers; improved power management and energy efficiency; and fine-grained CPU and memory resource control.

Reliability: In order to prevent corrupt data from being written to storage, Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux supports the Data Integrity Extensions and T10 Protection Information Model. In addition to this, it features low overhead performance counters for tracing and hardware fault management to improve application uptime.

Oracle Compatible: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux is specifically built and tested to run Oracle hardware, databases and middleware with the highest level of Linux performance and reliability available.
